What role do you see Influencer Marketing playing in brand marketing strategies in 2016?
I think influencer marketing will continue to play a significant role in 2016. An influencer understands their audience, and they have a bond that’s been strengthened by mutual trust and respect. By lending his or her voice to campaigns, a good influencer can help brands build establish a similar trust with their target markets.
What is the most widespread mistake you’ve seen brand marketers make in 2015 that you hope they learn from in 2016?
The biggest mistake I’ve seen is not learning from your mistakes. Being slow to realize that something isn’t working, and not adapting accordingly. Getting stuck in one mode and being afraid to try something new. Take a good look at your strategies. Be honest about what you need to change or update.
What word do you hope is officially banned from marketing vernacular in 2016?
I’d love to take a break from “content.” It’s a simple, inoffensive word that describes everything from text to images, video, audio, and just about any medium you can think of, but I’ve heard (and used) the term so much that it’s practically meaningless now.
Also, don’t use the word “viral” unless you’re talking about getting a flu shot.
What marketing events are you most looking forward to in 2016?
Advertising Week is always a big one. Widening the lens a bit beyond marketing, I’m hoping that Women’s Entrepreneurship Day will have an event in 2016.
